INNOVATOR FOUNDER VISA

What Is the Innovator Founder Visa?

The Innovator Founder visa is designed for entrepreneurs who want to set up and run an innovative business in the UK. The business idea must be new, viable, scalable, and supported by an endorsing body.

This visa replaced the previous Innovator and Start-up visa routes, combining elements of both. Applicants no longer need to invest a fixed amount (£50,000 is no longer a minimum requirement), but they must prove access to sufficient funds to launch and grow their business.

Key Features

• 3-year visa, renewable or convertible to settlement (ILR)
• Can lead to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) after 3 years
• No fixed minimum investment amount required
• Applicants can bring dependants (spouse/partner and children)
• Can engage in other work if it supports the business idea

Eligibility Requirements

• Be at least 18 years old
• Have a business idea that is innovative, viable, and scalable
• Receive an endorsement letter from an approved UK endorsing body
• Meet the English language requirement (at least CEFR Level B2)
• Prove financial ability to support yourself (unless exempt)
• Not have previously established a business in the UK (unless switching from another qualifying route)

Endorsement Process

To apply, you must be endorsed by a UK-approved endorsing body. The endorsement letter must confirm that:

• You are the sole founder or instrumental team member
• Your business idea is original and meets market needs
• There is evidence of planning for growth and scalability
• You will have regular contact with the endorsing body for monitoring

The endorsement must be issued within 3 months before your visa application.

What You Can Do on This Visa

• Set up and run your approved business in the UK
• Work for your own business, including in skilled roles
• Engage in part-time work outside the business, if approved
• Travel freely in and out of the UK

You cannot:
• Work as a professional sportsperson
• Access public funds

Settlement (ILR) and Citizenship

After 3 years in the UK, you may apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) if:

• Your business remains endorsed and active

After 12 months with ILR, you may be eligible to apply for British citizenship.
