Business establishment and investor residence
Dubai offers mainland and free-zone business structures. The suitable licensing authority and activity depend on the business you intend to operate. Company setup and personal immigration permission involve different requirements; a trade licence alone should not be treated as residence approval.
Investor and partner routes need the relevant commercial and immigration evidence. Green Residence is a renewable five-year category that can cover eligible investors and business partners without a personal sponsor. Do not assume every new company or shareholding meets its conditions.
Golden Visa and entrepreneur options
Golden Residence covers defined categories including qualifying investors, entrepreneurs and people with exceptional talents. Permission can be for five or ten years depending on the category, with renewal subject to the applicable conditions.
An entrepreneur’s innovation, project evidence and any required endorsement should be assessed against the exact route. A promising business idea, property purchase or company incorporation does not by itself prove eligibility for a particular long-term permit. Plan the evidence before committing money.
Remote work for an overseas organisation
Dubai’s virtual-work residence route is for remote work for an organisation outside the UAE. The permit is normally for one year and is renewable if its conditions continue to be met.
The published Dubai requirements include proof of overseas remote work, income of at least US$3,500 a month or its equivalent, health insurance and the relevant medical and identity documents. This is not the same as permission for any local job or a general freelance business licence.
Include family members from the start
Family sponsorship is a separate part of planning the move. The sponsor’s residence category, income or accommodation, relationship evidence and each family member’s circumstances affect eligibility. Adult dependants normally require the applicable medical-fitness examination.
Do not assume every relative is eligible or that their permission continues independently if the sponsor’s residence is cancelled. Different residence categories can have different family provisions; check the selected route before making travel or schooling commitments.
Prepare a practical route assessment
Start with your present location, nationality, existing UAE status, intended business or employment, investment position and proposed timing. Include the family members who would apply with you and any current expiry or refusal.
- For business or investment plans, outline the activity, proposed structure and available supporting records.
- For remote work, identify the overseas employer or organisation and how the work and income will be evidenced.
- Separate government, licensing, medical, insurance and professional costs before agreeing a package.
- A later move from Dubai to the UK needs its own UK immigration assessment; UAE residence does not establish a UK visa entitlement.
Common questions
Which Dubai residence option is best?
That depends on the real activity, financial evidence, family needs and timing. The right starting point is a short qualifying enquiry, followed by confirmation of the appropriate scope and fees.
Can I rely on a fixed approval time or a guaranteed visa?
No. Authorities can request further evidence and outcomes depend on the application. Confirm the current requirements and full cost breakdown before relying on a quotation or making irreversible arrangements.
